Erik received his Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Social Work from the University of Utah. He comes to Alpine with many years of experience working with adolescents. He spent the two years prior to joining Alpine at a youth residential treatment center in Salt Lake City, which he really enjoyed, and which gave him a great working knowledge of the types of adolescents he works with at Alpine.
Earlier in his career, Erik was a youth director near Denver, CO, where he mentored high school and middle school students, encouraging positive decision making, healthy relationships at home and with their peers, personal growth and service outreach to others. He then moved to Utah to join a non-profit organization that specialized in helping individuals as well as large organizations communicate more effectively. This work has resulted in two groups, historically at odds with one another, understanding each other and working together on collective issues.
Erik’s personal philosophy is to “embrace the mess.” He believes that because we don’t expect others to be perfect, we should not expect perfection from ourselves as we work toward a healthy sense of self and improved interactions with others. Erik enjoys helping students and their families discover and utilize their strengths as they gain insight into their struggles.
