Janette Thompson
Janette has worked with youth and families in a variety of residential and academic settings for over 25 years. While pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science, Janette began working as a counselor at a residential treatment center for youth and has never looked back. Since then, Janette has held many direct care and leadership positions in short-term youth shelters, non-secure detention facilities, residential treatment centers and both public and private schools. Working as a Shelter Supervisor in short-term youth shelters and non-secure detention centers in Las Vegas and Brooklyn; and Director of Training and Evaluation, Program Consultant, Residential Supervisor and spending 8 years as a Live-In Treatment Parent at Utah Youth Village / Alpine Academy has given Janette extensive experience working with youth and their families in a variety of environments.
With a passion for working with youth, striving for life-long learning and continued education and development; Janette obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling and spent 6 years working as an elementary and high school counselor in the public education setting before returning to the residential industry as an Academic Director and, later, a Residential Program Director, Transition Coordinator, and In-Town Aftercare Director. Janette is a master at building relationships and helping youth and their families identify and come to understand their unique strengths and weaknesses better, leading to increased health, happiness and success in treatment and their lives beyond.
Janette is an adventurer at heart and has a deep love of play, history, culture and connecting with others. She has traveled the world extensively, spending time in over 65 countries across the globe – contributing to her goals of life-long learning and building connections. Janette has also served in various humanitarian capacities throughout Asia, Africa, Mexico and Europe – most recently starting a microloan program for women’s’ groups in Africa; and opening a community shelter facility in Ukraine that continues to serve 50 women and children who are victims of the on-going Russian invasion.
Janette is excited to return to Alpine Academy, which has always felt like “home”.
