Russ grew up near Nashville, Tennessee, and came out to Utah for some whitewater rafting in high school and decided to make Utah his home. Russ finished his undergraduate and graduate degrees while living in Utah. He worked in a variety of settings, including residential, secure care, youth receiving, with the homeless and with child, youth and adults. He has experience with PTSD, Attachment disorders, trauma, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Substance Abuse, Self-harming behaviors, Borderline Personality Disorder, and OCD.

Russ focuses on a collaborative attachment-based approach with families and their daughters, working to make sure that from this secure attachment he can help each individual to nurture their own sense of self, and to find their path and passion in life. He is experienced in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and has advanced training as a guided meditation facilitator and often incorporates ‘going inward’ into his clinical practice. He is EMDR trained and is also a Certified Family Trauma Professional, as well as nationally board certified. He believes strongly that each individual has worth and that a key part of growth and change is finding this value and healing from past trauma.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and dogs, and loves to explore the night sky, nature, photography, and learn new things. Russ loves to share these passions with others. Russ is also an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University and Salt Lake Community College and enjoys helping students succeed.  You might also find him rooting for the local professional soccer teams, Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals FC. He looks forward to working with each youth and helping them find their passion, path, and potential and realize what they have to offer to the world. Each life that changes and heals creates a more positive world. A better world is created one life at a time.
