Shawna Smart, ALMFT
Shawna began her journey in Alpine’s residential department while completing her degree and quickly found herself drawn to the heart of the program. Her transition to the clinical team was a smooth one, as she had built a solid reputation of trust and admiration with youth, parents, professionals, and colleagues.
During her time in the homes, Shawna was a steady and trusted presence, especially during periods of transition. She has a natural ability to step into challenging moments with a positive, can-do attitude, and that same presence now defines her work as a therapist. Shawna is known for the way she connects—quickly, genuinely, and in a way that makes both youth and parents feel seen and valued. It’s not uncommon to hear that families love working with her, largely because it’s so clear how much she genuinely cares about them.
Shawna embodies the Alpine Way, seeing the good in people and treating others with dignity and respect. Whether she’s in session, walking through campus, or checking in with a student, she brings warmth and authenticity that draws people in and helps them feel just a little more understood, a little more hopeful. Around campus, she’s hard to miss; students and staff alike are quick to stop her for a moment of connection.
Outside of Alpine, Shawna is a devoted wife and mother who loves her family fiercely. She enjoys spending time outdoors with them, seeking out adventures and creating meaningful experiences together.
